Football Pitch at Crookesbroom Primary Academy in Doncaster

The Customer

Part of the Delta Academies Trust, Crookesbroom Primary Academy aims to build their pupil’s self-confidence, by teaching them the skills to succeed in all aspects of their life.

To teach their pupils these skills, having a solid curriculum and reliable facilities for their pupils to explore is essential.

This is why they contacted Pentagon Play.

The Objectives

Headteacher, Rob Harvey, contacted Pentagon Play looking to develop an all-weather outdoor space for his pupils.

Aware that the temperamental British weather means the main school field is often unusable and unsafe, and that the shared school hall is often too small and too busy, Crookesbroom School wanted to provide an additional space for pupils.

With a large tarmac area perfect for developing on, Outdoor Learning Consultant, Jordan Dale, got to work.

Our Approach

Visiting the site, meeting with Rob and the team and getting an understanding of the goals that they had for the space was the first port of call for Jordan.

Site Visits are extremely important in advising on the best next steps, taking into consideration the following:

  • Size of the area
  • Current surfacing
  • Access to the space
  • Building regulations
  • Drainage
  • And many other factors!

Jordan advised on our 4G Playturf Artificial Grass Surfacing, designed to support all sports, whilst remaining vibrant and fresh-looking for years to come.

Jordan also had to consider a range of base works for this space, making sure than any area of the tarmac that dipped or rose where equipment previously sat was levelled to ensure that the space worked well for sports!

 The Results

Crookesbroom Primary School is now home to a 20m x 12m Multi-Use Games Area where pupils will build key sports skills through active play with their peers.

Whether using the space for football, rugby, netball or another sport, this versatile space can be used by many groups and classes all-year round.

Balls will be confined to the space with the 2m high Mesh Fencing System, meaning the rest of the playground is safe for those who don’t enjoy sports.

Whether being utilised as part of a P.E lesson, or just in pupil’s free time, this secure space is ideal for ensuring your pupils can play outside, no matter the weather!
