Chelmondiston Primary's Playground Equipment

An amazing range of early years playground equipment

When we got the opportunity to undertake a playground renovation project at Chelmondiston CEVC primary school, we were thrilled at the prospect.

After some research we discovered that the school embraces comparable values to our own. We felt assured that our expertise in the outdoor play area could support their goals. Chelmondiston CEVC primary school aims;

  • To be a friendly, caring and welcoming school with an uncompromising commitment to nurture each child’s uniqueness.
  • To provide a creative, dynamic and rich curriculum that inspires curiosity and challenges children, so they strive to be the best that they can be.

Pentagon’s outdoor play area specialist; Marion McCall communicated with Mr Sean Cornish (Headteacher of Chelmondiston CEVC primary school).

They discussed how we could renew their early years playground to encourage children to develop the 7 areas of learning, and make it an outlet for creativity, ‘curiosity and challenges’.

One of the children’s favourites, this aesthetically pleasing Climb Through Tunnel Hill, encourages free and creative thinking whilst also being a great resource for building gross motor skills and physical development.

Miss Melissa Hawkins, EY Lead at Chelmondiston CEVC primary school comented:

“The children’s favourite part is the hill where they have enjoyed running up and rolling down. They have also used it when experimenting with cars and how far they can make them roll.”

We created a bespoke and tailored Climbing Wall  to develop the children's gross motor skills, climbing confidence and coordination.

Imaginative and creative play equipment

EYFS Lead, Miss Melissa Hawkins, had this to say about our Water Wall:

“The Water Wall has been useful in giving the children the opportunity to experiment with moving the plastic and finding the quickest way to get the water from top to bottom.”

We were overjoyed when Chelmondiston CEVC primary school chose to incorporate a water wall and damming station into their early years playground.

This is a brilliant way of integrating sensory knowledge, fact-finding and problem-solving skills, coupled with teamworking skills and inspires an advanced level of rational.

Through play children can develop their knowledge and understanding of gravity, movement and essentially rain. Building dams is vital in boosting creative thinking, problem solving skills and encourages communication between peers and team work.

Together the children can learn to build dams, using a combination of motor skills to stop the flow of water.

We installed our Water Table to boost children's intellectual thinking and understanding of the world, this can be used to discover floating objects and increase their knowledge of materials.

For mark making, we mounted a giant outdoor chalkboard on posts to inspire children to express their artistic sides and improve their literacy and writing skills. It also has the added advantage for teachers should they wish to take learning outdoors in the sunshine.

Here is some lovely, positive feedback from Miss Melissa Hawkins, EY Lead at Chelmondiston CEVC primary school:

‘The process has been fantastic and really simple. The fitters were very friendly and accommodating, adapting the design to suit our needs as they went. Pentagon Play made it all so easy!
