St Wilfrid's Enclosed Multi Use Games Area

An enclosed Multi Use Games Area for ball games and teamwork

Our Outdoor Learning Consultant and Director, Andy Snell, worked in partnership with St Wilfrid’s CE Primary School to develop an amazing multi use games area on the school’s tarmac playground.

Before our development, the school had a huge need for an enclosed area for sport to separate ball games from other children’s play.

The Headteacher, Helena Miller, spoke of the need for an enclosed sport zone:

"We wanted to improve the safety on the playground because the children’s ball games were clashing with other children’s play. Balls were constantly striking children and teachers during break and lunch."

"We met with Pentagon Play to discuss the possibility of creating an enclosed space that fully focused on ball games and sport."

"An area like this would not only make our playground safer and less crowded but also enhance the enjoyment of the children during break and P.E. Moreover, we thought it would be a fantastic way to develop children’s teamwork skills and togetherness."

Using our expertise, we designed and installed a cost-effective enclosed sport zone on the far end of the tarmac playground.

The MUGA includes 2M high twin mesh fencing to ensure the ball games stay within the space and never interrupt other children playing on the playground.

We used artificial grass surfacing to create an all-weather and safe sports environment. Moreover, the area includes recessed goals and a white goal line and centre line.

Helena Miller explained the difference the enclosed sports zone has made:

"Like expected, it has helped develop children’s teamwork. It has also given the boys an excellent enclosed space to play and express themselves. We no longer have balls flying around the playground, meaning other children can enjoy the space without being interrupted."

"The girls’ uptake in ball games has also increased by a massive 75%."

It was a pleasure to work with such a fantastic school and we’re glad the development has benefited both the boys and girls of St Wilfrid’s CE Primary School

Helena Miller kindly added:

"We received excellent service from both Andy and the rest of the Pentagon Play team. We highly recommend them to any school looking to develop their outdoor area."
