The Customer
Located within the northern point of the historic Wirral Peninsula, St Josephs Primary School delivers an unmatched level of childcare and education for the children of Upton and surrounding areas. This catholic primary school is well regarded by the local community, with many members believing it's one of the best schools in all of Birkenhead!
From it's happy and welcoming environment to the ambitious and inclusive curriculum, St Josephs has managed to create an environment that helps over two hundred children a year develop important skills and behaviours. Ofsted even noted how the "children's behaviour is exemplary" and how "there are many opportunities in place to broaden pupils' horizons".
Mrs Marrin, headteacher of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, and her fantastic team of staff are always striving to make the school as perfect as it can be. After reviewing a wide selection of factors, the staff decided to shift their focus on to the early years play area and how it could be further improved...
From Browse to Classroom
Looking online to find some inspiration, Mrs Marrin quickly came across a selection of our most popular products. Impressed by the uniqueness, she quickly headed to our Online Shop to learn more about these products.
Arriving at the Online Shop, Mrs Marrin was amazed by the hundreds of pieces of play equipment and classroom furniture offered by Pentagon Play, with each piece offering a unique experience for the children to enjoy.
After finding two packages she liked the look of, Mrs Marrin quickly spoke to Mrs Jenny Daffern (F2 Teacher at the primary school) to see if the play equipment was something that she needed. As soon as she saw the packages and noticed their freestanding nature, Mrs Daffern told her headteacher that she thought they'd be a brilliant addition to the EYFS play area.
However, the pair were unsure about one factor: they didn't want a product that required high levels of maintenance. Deciding to get clarification, they decided to give our Online Shop team a call to get more information regarding the packages.
Questions Answered, Confidence Gained
Maddy McGuire, a member of our Online Shop team, quickly answered the call and spoke to the pair. Throughout the call, Maddy answered every question posed by the duo and provided in-depth explanations to help the pair understand more about the products they were interested in.
Mrs Daffern and Mrs Marrin were blown away by the customer service provided by Maddy, from her friendly approach to the conversation to the way she explained everything. To answer their concern in regards to the equipment being high maintenance, Maddy thoroughly explained how the two packages they were interested in could be left outside all day throughout the year, requiring little maintenance.
Alongside this, Maddy helped the pair understand how freestanding play equipment could benefit the school by being placed in their EYFS play area. From the versatility offered by it to the ability of being able to store it away to create an open space for outdoor lessons, the pair loved hearing about the nature of freestanding equipment and were keen to integrate it into their play space.
Impressed by this, the pair decided that the equipment was worth acquiring, considering both the play value and financial value they would get from it. Over-the-moon, Maddy helped them place the order through the Online Shop and got to work ensuring that it was delivered promptly and securely.

Bringing Adventure to Life with Freestanding Play Equipment
As our professional delivery team arrived at St Joseph's Primary, they met with Jenny (who was very excited to get her hands on the playground equipment). Carefully handled, the team quickly and carefully unloaded the new equipment at the school, said their goodbyes to the staff and drove off to deliver more high-quality play equipment to schools across Great Britain.
Moving the equipment to her play area, Jenny was excited to see what type of impact the two new packages would have with the children and to see how popular her area became with the children. Once all the equipment was placed in the right spots, the children started exploring their new environment.

Up and Under Blocks Ramp and Stair
Loving the idea of making their play area an environment that promotes active play and assists in children's physical development, the second package that the school ordered was the Up and Under Blocks Ramp and Stair! This set has quickly become a centrepiece of the school’s outdoor play area, offering children a world of adventure and skill-building in one innovative package!
This adaptable 3-in-1 trail combines a tunnel, ramp, and a set of stairs, giving pupils endless opportunities to customise their play experience. Whether children are climbing, crawling, balancing, or building their confidence on different inclines, the set is designed to grow a variety of cognitive and physical skills.
What sets the Up and Under Blocks apart is their child-friendly design. Lightweight and equipped with easy-grip side handles, even the youngest children can safely move and rearrange the blocks, fostering independence and collaborative play. The ability to reconfigure the trail means every playtime brings a new adventure. The stairs provide a fantastic opportunity for your little adventurers to accelerate their development of gross motor skills, whilst the ramp focuses on promoting balancing and coordination.
Imaginative play is at the heart of this set. The tunnel’s interior features chalkboard walls, perfect for secret messages, creative cave drawings, or even a touch of Stone Age storytelling. Children can invent fairy tales, give instructions to friends, and develop their language and communication skills as they navigate the course together.
Delivered fully assembled and ready for action, the Up and Under Blocks Ramp & Stair set not only encourages active play but also sparks creativity, teamwork, and a love of learning outdoors. It’s a versatile, engaging addition that transforms any playground into a landscape of endless possibilities.
Happy Faces Everywhere!
Once a few weeks had passed, Maddy decided to reach out to Jenny and ask if there's any chance a small team of Pentagonians could visit the school. As the school is local to our office in Middlewich, we wanted to take the chance of seeing what impact their new play equipment had on the children. Jenny was more than happy with us to visit, so we made our way to Birkenhead.
Arriving at the school, the team were greeted by Jenny and other members of staff. Throughout the entire duration of the visit, the team at St Joseph's were incredibly accommodating and friendly, making us feel right at home.
Walking towards the F2 play area, Jenny explained how she loved the fact that the two packages could be used in conjunction with each other. Through this, she felt like she could create even more challenges for her children, offering more play value to the school and making the equipment a great investment too.
As we walked onto Jenny's playground, we were greeted by the children (who were very excited to see us)! Speaking to the children, we found out very quickly that they were super keen to take part in a photoshoot to showcase their amazing new play equipment.
Watching the children play, a few of them told us what they thought about the equipment. Their favourite piece was the tunnel from the Up and Under Ramp and Stairs, as it provided a unique challenge to their play area and offered multiple opportunities for active and imaginative play.
Overall, the kids loved the equipment, believing that the new packages had transformed their play area into an active play haven. They especially loved the ability to move the packages around and create their own obstacle courses, allowing them to engage in child-led play.
We wish the absolute best for St Joseph's Catholic Primary School and that they continue to help the next generation develop healthy and beneficial behaviours and attitudes towards life. We hope that they'll use us again if they ever need help with their outdoor and/or indoor spaces.
